PV is a financial function in Excel that returns the present value of an investment or loan. Present value is the total amount that a series of future payments is worth now. However, it could also be used to calculate what a lump sum amount in the future is worth now. The components of the PV function include: interest rate per period, number of periods, payment per period (optional), future value (optional), type of payments (optional).
